| Louis Garneau founded his company in the fall of 1983, in his father's garage, after 13 years of cycle racing around the globe and winning the Canadian Championship in individual pursuit. In 1984, after participating in the Los Angeles Olympic Games, he left active competition and turned to business.
Since then, Louis Garneau, Inc. has evolved rapidly. In just five years, Louis Garneau Sports grew from one employee to 118 employees, a garage to a 32,000 square foot building, and local distribution had proliferated to national distribution throughout Canada. In 1989, Louis Garneau crossed the border and entered the US market, with the introduction of sublimation printing, a helmet line in 1988, and the addition of accessories.
Throughout the years, the company has achieved numerous awards and recognition including two of Canada’s most prestigious Awards for Business Excellence. In 1996, Louis Garneau Sports was certified ISO 9002, one of the first North American clothing manufacturers to receive certification.
Today, Louis Garneau USA, Inc. not only functions as an assembly and distribution plant, but it serves as an independent subsidiary which focuses on marketing and sale strategies based on the distinctions of the US market. The Louis Garneau group has six factories and employs more than 425 employees. |
